American diabetic diet information

An American diabetic diet is usually limited to 2,000-calories. This means that you have food servings of 2,000 calories per day. There are many calorie counters on the market that you can buy quite cheaply that will help you work out the calories in food. In addition, the labels on food often state the calorie count. You do need to be careful though and check the amount of a serving on the packaging as you may end up having all your calories in one snack! Americans are very concerned about their health and the onslaught of weight related diseases. There are a number of books promoted that take into account the hectic lifestyle that we lead and provide a suitable American diabetic diet. Unfortunately, or fortunately, whichever way you look at it, America is a nation blessed with a lot of food. Unfortunately, it is tempting to overindulge particularly with the variety of fast food outlets that are convenient for our busy lifestyle. Most things that we tend to like too much are bad for us and the reason that we enjoy them is that we have become addicted to the flavour that fat, salt, artificial preservatives and sugar produces. These are the products that can lead to degeneration of our health. The effect of having too much of these natural and artificial enhancers increases the strain on our body to process them. Our bodies find it easier to digest, process and utilise fresh fruit and vegetables rather than heavily processed food. Often it is the added additions to our meals that we have become used to that carry the most calories like sauces, salt, seasonings, mayonaise, butter and cream. If your doctor has advised an American diabetic diet you can expect to start your day with two slices of toast a cup of skimmed milk, one serving of a fruit like a medium-sized banana or an orange, and a tablespoon of cheese or something similar. You may find that this may be more food than you are used to for breakfast initially. Sometimes, when we are in a hurry we might just pick up a muffin or doughnut on our way to work and eat it while waiting for the bus. Once the effect of the sugar wears off mid morning we find ourselves hungry again and craving snacks. After a few days, of trying the American diabetic diet you will get used to eating this amount of food at breakfast and you will get hunger pains if you are tempted to miss breakfast. The diet is not strict and boring and you will find that snacks are allowed. In fact, snacking is encouraged every 2 hours on healthy snacks. It is a good idea to plan your day so that you have a snack or a meal at least every 2 hours. This prevents your body getting hungry which consequently leads to impulsive eating. By eating small, regular, healthy meals your body can best utilise the insulin and glucose it has over the day. By keeping your body topped up on healthy fuel all day you will find that you will have more energy, feel happier and lose weight.
